The Co-operative

The Co-operative is the UK’s largest member-owned business, with three million members and a unique 165 year history of campaigning for change. The Co-operative is in its tenth year of campaigning on Burma, and recognises Burma VJ as a unique opportunity to motivate people to take action and drive change.

In line with the call from democratically-elected representatives of the Burmese people, The Co-operative does not trade with Burma, The Co-operative Travel has delisted the country as a tourist destination, and The Co-operative Bank will not finance any organisation with a significant commercial presence in Burma.

The Co-operative also works to raise awareness about the plight of the Burmese people.  As well as bringing to life Burma VJ, throughout 2008 and 2009, The Co-operative has supported 'The Burma Play, A Comedy of Terror', which offers a vivid insight into Burma’s recent political history. To date, over 1,200 people have attended our performances in 16 different locations, with more dates scheduled to take place later this year.
